With the assistance of the Sports Union and the Alumni association, the Curling Club have begun to look to the future, formalising our development plans and seeking to provide the best quality environment for our fledgling athletes. The structures of the club are being entirely overhauled in order to better provide routes to competition, high quality training and most importantly, individual curler development. Central to this is the development of the club’s coaching structure. At present, to say there is a structure in place would be charitable- curlers are taught by fellow, unqualified students and unfortunately this can go only so far. Ability levels plateau and players stagnate. We are seeking to rectify this by encouraging members, at the earliest possible juncture, to take the RCCC Assistant Coach qualification and to then further their knowledge with the RCCC Technical Coach certificate. Members holding the latter qualification shall become able to supervise the on-ice element of Assistant Coach training, rendering the need for external coaches entirely moot.
